Research supports many medical benefits of breastfeeding, such as a reduction in communicable diseases, hospitalizations, infant mortality and obesity. Despite these benefits, breastfeeding rates within our communities that start as high as 75-85% at birth, plummet 2-3 days after birth with a steady decline thereafter resulting in less than 30% at 3-6 months. Multiple barriers perpetuate this steady decline requiring interdisciplinary collaboration among health care, government, and business organizations, like the Florida Breastfeeding Coalition to improve the health of Floridians by working collaboratively to protect, promote and support breastfeeding.

As a statewide coalition, the Florida Breastfeeding Coalition is registered with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) which allows the Coalition to participate in national training seminars and meetings to assist our state in legislative advocacy, minimizing barriers to breastfeeding, and supporting breastfeeding for healthy mothers and babies/children.
